The\u00a0 proposed\u00a0 UNESCO-Russia\u00a0 Mendeleev\u00a0 International\u00a0 Prize\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 Basic\u00a0 Sciences,\u00a0 financially supported by the Russian Federation, aims to bolster basic sciences education, research, international\u00a0 cooperation,\u00a0 and,\u00a0 consequently,\u00a0 the\u00a0 use\u00a0 and\u00a0 applications\u00a0 of\u00a0 these\u00a0 disciplines,\u00a0 which\u00a0 are fundamental for providing solutions to many of the development challenges that Member States face\u00a0 as\u00a0 they\u00a0 implement\u00a0 the\u00a0 United\u00a0 Nations\u00a0 2030\u00a0 Agenda\u00a0 for\u00a0 Sustainable\u00a0 Development\u00a0 and\u00a0 other\u00a0 related\u00a0 international\u00a0 agenda,\u00a0 such\u00a0 as\u00a0 the\u00a0 Paris\u00a0 Agreement\u00a0 on\u00a0 climate\u00a0 Change\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 Senda\u00ef\u00a0 Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction. Such a Prize will give recognition to achievements that are conducive\u00a0 to\u00a0 socio-economic\u00a0 transformation \u00a0and\u00a0 development\u00a0 on\u00a0 a\u00a0 regional\u00a0 or\u00a0 global\u00a0 scale,\u00a0 by\u00a0 underpinning:<\/span><\/p>\n The\u00a0 Prize\u00a0 shall\u00a0 be\u00a0 awarded\u00a0 annually\u00a0 to\u00a0 two\u00a0 individual\u00a0 award-winners\u00a0 for\u00a0 their\u00a0 breakthrough\u00a0 discoveries,\u00a0 outstanding\u00a0 innovations\u00a0 and\u00a0 avid\u00a0 promotion\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 basic\u00a0 sciences,\u00a0 driving\u00a0 or\u00a0 with\u00a0 potential to drive in the future, socio-economic transformation and development of human societies. The Prize consists of a monetary reward of US $250,000 for each of the two winners, representing a total monetary prize value of $500,000. A gold medal and a diploma will be given to each of the recipients.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
